Johnston county is the third fastest growing county in NC. This comes with growing pains all its own unfortunately. One of those issues is that the school system is buckling at the seams and we can see the issues this causes. One clear issue is the public schools overuse of temporary buildings. While at the same time Charter schools open up all over the county with issues all their own and drain funds from our public school system. The kids are not getting the education they need or deserve. Children defy and confront their teachers daily leading to added stress and frustration from all parents and school staff involved. As well there is clear and rampant racism and bullying in Johnston county schools which has yet to be addressed by the schoolboard. Lastly, many of these schools are relying on outdated systems and equipment or if they do have a new system many times it is incorrectly and poorly implemented. This comes from a lack of accountability within the board of education and Johnston County Schools. If we as a community come together to put not only a working class person but a veteran into office we can do the work that is needed to fix these issues.

Sam is aware of all the necessary work that is done in Johnston county. From the Agriculture of the fields and farms, to the small business owners just trying to make rent and pay their employees at the end of the month. From all of the hardworking road and construction workers, to the teachers and administrative staff in all of our schools and municipal buildings. That is nothing to say the endless amount of government workers, not to mention public school or even charter school employees, Nurses and medical staff at hospitals, retail staff we see day to day, and many, many other hard working individuals we pass without a second thought everyday. One thing is for sure Joco is a very hardworking community.
The working class people have the answer to these Public School issues and more! Within the community we can come together to lift up others from the working class, that share our ideals. The working class people have the answer to these Public School issues and more! Within the community we can come together to lift up others from the working class, that share our ideals. Sam plans to help shine a light on the lack of accountability by working to pass policy to hold board members to a higher standard. As well as posting finance records in a public place that is explained in a way that is easy for everyone to read and understand regardless of education level. Beyond that Sam has a plan to work to pass a policy used in some charter schools right now to hold schools to a specific disciplinary standard and to help school staff pass the responsibility of disciplining children back to their parents rather than on the teachers themselves. Hopefully with these solutions in place Joco school systems can strive to be a better place for the kids they serve which are our future citizens, community members, and neighbors, as well as the school staff working in the schools themselves.
